Your first driving lesson. How to prepare and what to expect

Your first lesson is not a test of courage. It is a calm introduction to the car, essential controls and working with an instructor.

Before the lesson

Sleep well, wear comfortable flat shoes and bring the document requested by the school. You do not need to learn the entire technique from videos because every car responds slightly differently.

Setting your driving position

The seat must allow full pedal movement without straightening the leg. Adjust the backrest, head restraint and mirrors, then fasten the seat belt before touching the controls.

Moving and stopping

You begin in a place where coordination can be practised safely. The instructor explains the clutch point, gentle acceleration and controlled stopping, and has additional pedals if intervention is needed.

After the first drive

Write down two things that worked and one that you want to repeat. Regular practice and asking clear questions matter more than trying to make the first lesson perfect.
